In this city, where nightlife is not just fun but a major revenue-generator and a critical element of what makes New York the greatest city in the world, David Rabin and his partners are guys in the know. As a proprietor of Jimmy at The James Hotel, the Lambs Club restaurant, and the newly reopened Double Seven nightclub, Rabin truly knows the formula for a good night out. He focuses on detail and tries to prevent that half-smile lost look amongst guests in overcrowded, decibel-blasting venues that we’re all too familiar with. Double Seven is “sexy” and “sophisticated,” and we got an inside look at the newly re-opened Meatpacking spot and even found out what other NYC nightlife destinations Rabin is a fan of outside of his own places.

Once you enter past the large brass door next to the graffiti painting of Bob Dylan, the ambiance is luxe to the max. The bar top is made of crocodile embossed leather. The base of the bar is made of laser cut steel. The low cocktail tables are Balinese teak. For a nostalgic tug at the hemline, the front seating area is adorned with hand blown glass from the original venue. The bar staff has been trained in none other than Sasha Petraske’s cocktail method. There’s even a dedicated staff member whose job it is to makes the specialty ice (large balls, perfect cubes and crushed).

The revival, in the old Rhone wine-bar space on Gansevoort Street, recreates the alluring oval-tunnel entrance of its predecessor (which was booted by the landlord). But the owners, night-life veterans from the former Lotus bar, want the new lounge to be a “bar for grown-ups.”
